Exclusivity

Unless the booking has been taken on behalf of a group, you will be the only artist exhibited at that time.

Submission of works

All submissions are considered by the Art Union panel once per month. The panel is made up of qualified and experienced artists, who have direct experience of selling their own and others work. We ask that three low resolution images are submitted for consideration. For each image you also need to state:

  • The title of the work
  • The size of the work
  • The medium
  • The proposed selling price

Should your work be selected as a suitable for an exhibition, we will contact you to discuss a mutually convenient date to exhibit. In the event that the panel does not consider your work to be suitable, we will offer some feedback, and of course will be happy to consider future work.

Timing of exhibitions

Exhibitions run from a Wednesday to the Sunday that is 11 days ahead – giving you twelve full selling days. Exhibitions run for an extra day in the event of the Monday being a bank holiday. Paintings can be hung from 12:00 midday on the day before the exhibition starts, and need to be

Art Union is open from 10:00 to 17:00 from Wednesday to Saturday, and 11:00 to 17:00 on Sundays

Private views

Experience has shown that exhibitions that include a private view result in more sales. Art Union is pleased to offer a private view, should you so wish. There is no additional charge for this, but you would need to provide your own refreshments and consumable items. Art Union will assist with the hosting of this event, but the artist will also need to be in attendance. We find Friday evenings are the best times for these events, which should finish at 21:00.

Fees

Art Union exhibitions are fully curated. The venue is staffed at all times by our experienced team – so, as an artist, there is no need for you to staff the venue yourself. There are two parts to the fee:

  • A hosting fee of £72.00 for the whole exhibition – that’s only £6 per day.
  • A commission rate of 36 percent on the retail value of all paintings sold.

There are no other fees or costs to pay, your fee includes the following:

  • Credit card handling fee (which would usually be 3% if you were using your own machine)
  • All packing materials
  • Background music (which would cost around £20 per week if arranging it yourself)
  • Promotion on the Art Union website and Art Union Socials
  • Listing on the “Trailers” board in Art Union
  • Your paintings are also available to puchase on the Art Union website

VAT

Like most retail businesses, Art Union is VAT registered. All original art work is sold to the end customer under the HMRC Margin Scheme for VAT. It is very important that, if you as an artist are VAT registered, you point this out at the point of booking confirmation so that alternative arrangements can be made for your exhibition

Insurance / title to goods

Please note that title to the goods passes directly from you to the customer at the point of sale. Until that point the goods are exhibited at your risk – and you should obtain your own specific insurance against loss or damage. Art Union does not hold any insurance for artists works.
